An angel guards the parish, but who will guard them from the angel?

In papal society, where the Church rules all, Bishop Sergio holds immense power; from shaping laws to settling disputes, from granting lands to collecting tithes, he is a man of both influence and faith. Sergio’s greatest power, however, is beyond man’s influence: he alone has a connection to Diomari, an angel appointed by God to guard the parish and deliver judgement upon the wicked.

But the angel is not the serene figure of scripture and art. Diomari is prideful, temperamental, and disturbingly human in his desires. When he becomes enamored with Palmina, a young woman orphaned by tragedy, his lust for her festers into jealousy and rage.

The parish reels when Palmina’s wedding, meant to unite bickering factions, is shattered by bloodshed…and only Sergio recognizes that the gruesome murder bears the angel’s hidden hand.

Diomari has fallen from grace into obsession. Sergio is torn between obedience and conscience; to accuse an angel is heresy, but to do nothing is damnation.
